30 days of Magic: #19 Sacred Space

As a parent there are very little places in my home that are just mine. Even places like my closet and random storage areas are visited by kids/husband and disturbed. When I discuss a ‘sacred space’ with patients, they often laugh and state that there is no place that is just theirs. However, sacred space can be a place that is not just yours or that will at some point be disturbed by others. Sacred space lies within you. So here is a few tips to create a sacred space, even if it is only for a few moments.

I like this!: Put items in your sacred space (this can be the whole house) that bring you joy. If it does not bring you happiness or have a purpose to be there otherwise- get rid of it.

Meaning: We give spaces meaning. So sit in the corner of whatever area you are going to make sacred and look at it like you have never seen it before. Who gave that space its meaning or vibe? How can you enjoy that space more? Can you give this space your own meaning?

Experience it: BE in the space. Not just float through on your journey. Appreciate it for what it is doing for you now and what experiences you may have in it in the future.

Change: Know that sacred spaces can shift as quickly as you do. This is not bad. Change is part of life, so the place that brings you a little relief should also be changing.

My insights: Before I really thought about this, I felt that I needed to determine a specific area of my home that was just mine that no one was allowed to disturb. But clearly with children and a husband- this is not an option. So I shifted my thought process into sacred space moments in which wherever I am at and whatever I am doing- can be that sacred space. This has reduced my anxiety and given me those moments of peace I was looking for.

In the world: What sacred places are in the world? This can include churches, monuments, wooded clearings, or even a particular part of a park you love. Try to indulge in those if you can today or plan on it in the future.

I would love to see who is going on this journey alongside me- so use the hashtag #30daysofMagic, tag me with @jessietherapy (facebook or instagram) , or message me so I can share your experience too.

See you in the blooms Friends!
